There is a "hidden" duck decoy in the barrel right above the band. You will find this call operates very smooth and requires very little air to operate. It is designed to produce sharp crisp quacks and squeals, yet through proper gating can emit that raspy hen drakes can't resist.

Our short reed goose calls are made by hand from one end to the other. The design is based on negative imaging. If you look to the side of the barrel you will see a goose silhouette. Each band is handmade from aluminum or brass. The guts are handmade and tuned specifically to each call, making it a one of a kind call. I believe wooden guts seem to have a more natural and mellow sound. The first comment from customers is usually how easy these calls are to blow. They require very little air to operate and produce high clucks and smooth low moans.

These calls will produce the sounds made by both cow and calf elk. Each toneboard is handmade, making it a truly one of a kind call. These calls operate somewhat different from other calls on the market. Most calls require the operator to bite the reed with their teeth or lips and slide across the toneboard. This method can wear reeds down at a much faster rate. To operate our call, press down the first o-ring with your upper lip while blowing and release pressure. Increased pressure at the beginning of the note or "mew" produces the higher pitch of a calf elk. There is a "hidden" bugling bull elk in the profile of the keg. The call has a carved elk print in the toneboard sleeve.
Each call is finished in rosewood oil. Stippling is offered on the keg at no additional charge. Inlays and endcaps are $10 each. Carved calls vary in price. Please contact us if you have any additional questions.

These turkey calls produce the yelps, purrs, clucks, cuts and putts of a wild turkey. The center of the playing surface produces the sounds of a jake. Strike the surface halfway between the center and edge of the call to produce the raspy sounds of a mature hen. Young hen sounds and kee-kee runs can be made on the edge of the playing surface. The side of the call and the top of the striker have a "hidden" turkey feather in the profile.
Each call is finished in rosewood oil. The sound board is painted to match the grain of the wood. Inlays are $10 each. Carved calls vary in price. Please contact us if you have any additional questions.

B Hoover Custom Calls is owned and operated by Brent and Sherri Hoover in North Platte, Nebraska. We offer a variety of game calls including duck, goose, deer, turkey, squirrel, predator, shotgun shell duck whistles and miscellaneous outdoor related items. These calls are unique in both sound and shape. Our duck call features a "hidden" duck in the profile of the barrel. The goose call has a hidden goose, and the deer, turkey and predator calls display a buck, turkey feather and coyote profile. Our goose and deer calls have handmade wood gutserts as well as guts. While this requires additional time, it makes each call one-of-a-kind.
I grew up just west of North Platte, Nebraska, between the North and South Platte Rivers. My dad made several items for my brother, sister and myself as we were growing up. One particular item Dad made for me was a two-foot long hand carved deer rifle I carried in the fields and woods until the finish wore off. I stil have that toy gun. Through the years Dad introduced me to hunting, fishing, art and woodworking. Due to those experiences I have always enjoyed making my own hunting and fishing equipment. Game calls, especially custom calls, have always fascinated me. I began making turkey wingbone calls, tube calls and antler whistles years ago. I painted or scrimshawed a turkey on the bell of the wingbone calls and carved on the tube calls and whistles. Custom calls bring hunting, art and woodworking all together. After decades of waterfowling and bowhunting, making my own duck, goose and deer calls gave me a new passion. Once again hunting, art and woodworking were blended together. I spent about nine months trying to learn the mechanics of a duck call. I initially thought I would walk into the shop and produce a "good" sounding duck call before the weekend was over. Boy, was I wrong! It took two more years of research and turning calls to produce a duck call that satisfied me. I could not leave well enough alone and continued to strive for a call that produced all the sounds I wanted. Soon after, I began to work on other calls. Goose calls with handmade guts were even more challenging and deer calls with handmade guts left me sleepless some nights. It was worth every minute. I spent a lot of time working through the process and praying for answers to my many questions. I cannot take credit for the final product. God led me through it all. The calls you see now are the result of a long journey of research, sketches, wood shavings and the gift God has given me.
I am married to my wonderful wife, Sherri, who has supported me through all these years. We were blessed with three beautiful daughters, and we spent a lot of time enjoying them and their interests as they were growing up. I would do it all over again! God has blessed us with six grandchildren. Our grandsons are Papa's little buddies. I enjoy building things and playing with them every chance I can. While they are still quite young, we strive to find ways to spend time outdoors and enjoy God's wonderful creation.
In addition to making various game calls, I enjoy woodworking in general. Topping the list of interests and hobbies are waterfowling, bowhunting with a longbow and flyfishing with a bamboo rod. Yet, you may find me chasing pheasants on a crisp November Nebraska morning, looking for mushrooms in May or catching crawdads in early fall. Other interests include kayaking, photography, carving and art. Although I do not paint as many now as I have in the past, I have painted wildlife on nearly 500 turkey and pheasant feathers through the years. Once again, the common theme comes together as I am hunting for feathers, painting (art) and building shadowboxes (woodworking).
I recently lost my dad, but I would like to thank him for teaching me, my wife, family and friends for supporting me and my Lord and Savior Jesus for leading me.
